Alphen a/d Rijn, The Netherlands, July 8th, 2002--Troi Automatisering today announced the availability of Troi Serial Plug-in 2.5, for FileMaker Pro 5.5 and for Mac OS, Mac OS X and Windows. What is Troi Serial Plug-in? Troi Serial Plug-in gives FileMaker Pro 5.5 easy and powerful access to one or more of the computer's serial ports: Read from and write to the serial ports of the computer directly from FileMaker Pro without the need of a separate application. Active X support (on Windows) and Apple Event support (on Mac OS) for script triggering with Dispatch Scripting, to get incoming data into the database. "Serial-Control" function to temporarily suspend the incoming data stream and resume it when you are interested in the data. "Wait for Match" function to wait for a specific character string before triggering. The possibility to open an unlimited number of serial ports and to trigger different scripts for different ports. Support for high speed connections up to 230 Kbps. Buffering of data up to 64k per port. Clear example databases and a user manual to get started quickly. You can now troubleshoot by testing the arrival of data at the serial port and you can test script triggering too. On top of this we have added an alternative and universal way to trigger scripts on Windows!". New features Troi Serial plug-in 2.5 adds these new functions and features: Added troubleshooting functions for setting up a serial port. The new debug function can beep when data arrives and test the triggering of the dispatch script. Added an alternative and more universal way to trigger scripts on Windows, where Active X is not available. You can now get the last match string (for example the last line) that was received. The plug-in can now be reinitialized without quitting FileMaker Pro. This makes it possible to accommodate new or different serial ports dynamically, for example when you plug in a USB serial adapter Added possibility to change the separator between parameters. This is useful for Japanese systems, where port names contain the pipe characters. Fixed two bugs: one occurring when multiple match strings were received and the other (on Mac OS) where flow control would not be set properly. Added an example for reading serial barcodes. Updated the user guide and examples. Suggested Uses Troi Serial Plug-in can be used whenever you need to send or receive ASCII data over a serial port. Suggested uses for Troi Serial Plug-in 2.5 are connecting to a modem, custom switchboard dialing, caller ID, barcode reading, controlling external devices, data acquisition and data transfer. This plug-in is also very well suited for the use in electronic devices that send data to the computer continuously, like most electronic weighing scales. An example file for a weighing scale is included in the download. Troi Serial Plug-in 2.5 works with FileMaker Pro 5 and later. The plug-in is available for Mac OS 9.0.4 or later, including Mac OS X (10.1 or later), and for Windows 95/98/Me and NT/2000/XP. The plug-in should also run without problems on any machine that is able to run FileMaker Pro 4.0, FileMaker Pro 4.1 and runtimes from FileMaker Developer Edition 4.0. Licenses cost US$ 69 per user.
